New Team Member – Bob Baillie

Bob Baillie joins Solar and Wind Applications

We are delighted to announce that from mid June, Bob Baillie, formerly of the Energy Agency, will join the company as Business Development Manager.

For the past 6 years Bob has managed the Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre which covers South West Scotland, advising householders and organisations about energy efficiency, sustainable transport and renewable energy technologies.

Having now retired, Bob is keen to carry on sharing his enthusiasm, experience and vast knowledge on renewable technologies with those interested in making their homes or business more energy efficient.

Rod and Bob

Bob Baillie, right, with Managing Director Rod Macneal

As well as being knowledgeable about the available technologies, Bob can also speak from experience. At his home he has a Solar Thermal system, and Air Source Heat Pump, a 6kW Wind Turbine and a Solar PV system!

Over the past 7 years over 200 people have visited Bob at his home to see and experience first hand just how these technologies operate, and discover how much energy can be generated and the large savings on energy bills.

“I’m very happy to be joining Solar and Wind Applications. They have installed systems at my own house. My experience – and that of many other people that I’ve spoken to – is that the company is tremendously professional and committed to providing high quality products, installing them well and at a good, competitive price, says Bob.

If you are concerned about your fuel bills and wonder if renewable technologies are for you, then now is the time to come and talk to Bob and the rest of the Solar and Wind team to ensure you get the best technical and financial advice. The financial climate is strong, providing support for many of the installations available including – Feed in Tariff for solar PV and Wind Turbine systems, and the Renewable Heat Incentive for heating technologies. These benefits are in addition to savings on your fuel bills!

To find out more – Come to our Open Days to meet Bob and the team to discuss. Or if you can’t make it to any of the events, get in touch and we’ll be happy to make an appointment to see you at your home (or Bob’s house) to see what we can do for you.

Solar Initiative – SE Scotland

We have recently been nominated as a Home Energy Scotland installer for South East Scotland.

If you are located in the South East (Lothians and Borders), we will be able to provide you with an installation with a fixed* reduced price as displayed below. These prices include standard VAT at 5% and include the OWL Intuition monitoring system free of charge.

2.5kWp System – £4140

3.0kWp System – £4740

3.5kWp System – £5450

4.0kWp System – £5940

All systems are based on LG Modules, SMA Inverter plus all required components and of course installed to MCS standards.

So, if you’re interested in this scheme please get in touch and we’ll get started on your journey to becoming solar powered!

* Based on a two storey house (without planning constraints) with a typical tiled roof at a 35deg pitch, with clear access space below and standard loft hatch access to the attic. Assume an appropriate (average) distance between components and connection to a modern consumer unit within the property. Assume no significant shading and all panels installed in one plane. If your home does not meet these criteria, we’ll do our best to keep the price the same or as close to it as possible. We will explain any changes fully.

Repair and Improve

With the boom in the Solar PV industry since 2011, there are now a huge number of Solar PV systems installed on homes and businesses all over Scotland. Sadly, many of these will have been installed by companies who are no longer trading, leaving the customer with nowhere to turn if there are any issues. But we can help, with our Repair and Improve service.

We have been receiving calls from system owners requiring anything from replacement panels from storm damage, inverter error messages, performance issues or other electrical problems. From our experience from over 10 years in the industry, we have the knowledge and expertise to assist on any issues you have with your system – large or small.

Energy Price Increases

With energy companies starting to announce this years energy price increases, why not beat the extra cost by generating your own, clean energy?

Elios4You

Elios4You showing generation and consumption, highlighting import/export of power

By installing a solar PV system you can half (or better) the amount of electricity you need to buy from your supplier. Not only that, but you also get the Feed in Tariff payment for every drop of power you generate…even if you make use of it yourself. Get paid to use power???? Yes!

With other great products available, such as Elios4You, you can also learn more about your energy use in order to save you even more. Knowledge is power!

…and with EMMA you can use 90% or more of your generated power to offset your water heating cost… essentially hot water for 3p/kWh!

Get in touch with us and we can keep you right, ensuring you get a system designed to suit your needs and your budget.

Mongol Rally – SCube in Tajikistan

Solar and Wind Applications recently donated one of our SCube teaching kits to our friend and former employee, Johnny Stormonth-Darling and the rest of the Heavy Ostia team on the Mongol Rally.

Johnny teaching SCube

Johnny, having been involved in production of the SCube as well as having a great knowledge of the science and the industry surrounding it, was very keen to share knowledge and play a part in helping one of their charities with their causes.

The charity SWORDE-Teppa carry out a broad spectrum of work, with the main goals of reducing poverty, disease and environment destruction. With an emphasis on education and use of local people employed to work to achieve their cause, we thought that the charity would be able to make great use of the SCube. The product will allow them to teach the next generation about clean energy, generation, storage and use – all a vitally important part of the communities in which the charity operates.

Above you can see Johnny talking with local children and adults about the SCube, and no doubt sharing his knowledge of what the technologies are capable of.

For more information on the team, the rally and their charities, head to http://www.heavyostia.com/ – and do feel free to donate, all of their charities share very environmental goals which I’m sure we can all agree are worthwhile.

Apologies for any delay you experienced – we’re usually much faster!
